Talk:J-series
From JuniperClue
The J series routers run an RTOS kernel (linux, bleh) inside a process that emulates the IP2 in software. It performs well, but taking a full routing table bloats the process to 600MB+ so you need at least 1GB of ram in the router to do internet related things. Earlier versions of the OS had problems with filtering, but thats been addressed in JunOS 7.4 The Web interface is "interesting" but usable for basic configuration.
Pushing an average of 10Mbps takes up about 5-10% of the CPU on a J6300.
- It's actually RTBSD AFAIK, basically a port of RT linux to BSD kernel. --Search trie 04:30, 1 April 2006 (BST)
